Mini Mathur Self-Designed Her Lehenga And Wore Nani's Vintage Jewellery 25 Years Ago For Her Wedding

Mini Mathur and her filmmaker husband, Kabir Khan, completed 25 years of marital bliss. As the couple are celebrating their wedding anniversary, Mini recalls her wedding day madness. Earlier, there were no designers selling lakhs of specially customised bridal outfits. Those were the simple times when the entire family ladies would come together and help the bride get ready. In some houses, they would hand stitch pretty gotta phool and kinaris on the bride’s lehenga.

Mini Mathur had self-designed her wedding day look

Mini Mathur, who tied the knot on February 28, 1998, had worn a gorgeous dual-toned lehenga. She looked pretty in a golden-hued lehenga, teamed with teal blue-coloured silk choli that featured full sleeves. She styled her lehenga with a sheer floral dupatta pinned over her head. In a lengthy Instagram post, Mini revealed that she had mixed and matched her own lookwn for her wedding day.

Mini accentuated her look with her nani gold jewellery. She donned a choker neckpiece, matching earrings, a maang teeka and a nath. Subtle makeup with kohl-filled eyes, glossy lips, and a bindi completed her look. Alongside it, Mini penned a heartfelt note recalling her wedding day. She wrote

“Hidden gems from a quarter century ago. When Sabyasachi lehengas weren’t the norm, with no wedding hashtags or exquisite sunset photos and certainly no bridal entry music. But I do remember being deliriously happy, singing & dancing like a monkey surrounded by Kabirs extensive Khan-daan from Hyderabad, the entire Mathur clan & all our friends.”

Mini also revealed a hilarious incident related to her hairstyle on her wedding day. She revealed that her friend made a trendy cornrow hairstyle, which created confusion in the mandap as to which side to fill with sindoor. She wrote:

“We signed a register.. but went ahead and happily did all the cultural ceremonies from both sides anyway! I wore my naanis jewellery, my friend @vidyatikari did my make up and made a trendy cornrow hairstyle which created much confusion in the mandap as to which one to fill with sindoor It took me an hour to take the pins off and i looked electrocuted on my wedding night.”

In her long note, Mini further revealed that they had invited everyone with a phone call and wedding cards which were send by letters. She also added that it was way before they tasted success. Her note can be read as:

“We invited everyone with a phone call & wedding cards sent by actual post mail.. yeah like with a postage stamp! This was way before we became filmmaker & TV host and we weren’t really worried about whether we would “make it” in life .. just had the most fun planning how we could blow up our next paychecks on a travel adventure together. It still feels like 5 years ago honestly.. so can’t fathom how all this time has passed.”

We love Mini Mathur’s wedding day look! What about you?
