Further, in the interview, Vidya stated that Raj Kapoor and her grandfather were close to each other. So much so that they also worked in the film, Dil Ki Rani together. Even after being old friends, Vidya had to reject the film because she was not comfortable with the character of ‘Rupa’ in Satyam Shivam Sundaram. In the film, ‘Rupa’ is perceived as a not-so-beautiful lady according to society’s standards. Yet the director, Raj Kapoor, intended to sexualise her role and outfit in every other scene. Vidya had said:

“I was offered Satyam Shivam Sundaram, but I did not take it, as I was not comfortable wearing the clothes that Zeenat Aman wore. Raj ji (Raj Kapoor) and my grandfather were very close and he had worked with my grandfather in a film (Dil Ki Rani, 1947). His dad, Prithviraj, also worked with my grandfather (in Shri Krishnarjun Yudh, 1945). We knew each other really well but still, I told him I wouldn’t be comfortable acting in his film.”
